Beijing Hospital was founded in 1905, initially known as the German Hospital. After the victory of World War II, it was renamed Municipal Beiping Hospital. In April 1949, the Ministry of Health of the Central Military Commission led medical personnel from Yan'an Central Hospital and Bethune International Peace Hospital to take over the then "Municipal Beiping Hospital", and it was renamed "Beijing Hospital" with the change of Beijing's name. Time has erased the imprints of the past, yet preserved the style of Beijing Hospital - subtle and unpretentious. The four-character cursive script of "Beijing Hospital" was written by Chairman Mao Zedong in 1950, and it has become an important symbol here. Beijing Hospital inherits the mission and fine traditions of Yan'an Central Hospital and continues to serve as a major base for national medical care.
The year 1964 was destined to be a historically significant one for Beijing Hospital. In that year, Chairman Mao Zedong personally issued an instruction, announcing the opening of Beijing Hospital to the public. Serving the general populace became another important responsibility that Beijing Hospital took on in the new era.
Today, Beijing Hospital, adhering to its motto of "Loyalty to Healthcare, Heartfelt Concern for People's Health", has evolved into a modern, comprehensive hospital open to the entire society, offering comprehensive services in medical treatment, healthcare, teaching, scientific research, and prevention. It is not only a Grade A tertiary hospital directly under the National Health Commission, but also a major national healthcare base.
